The Story Behind Gabriel's Way

Gabriel's Way was born from seven years of navigating the healthcare system alongside my son, Gabriel, who was diagnosed with a serious, life-threatening illness at just 14 years old.
In the beginning, we were fortunate to receive exceptional pediatric care. We had a team that knew Gabriel, understood his complicated medical needs, and made us feel like we weren't navigating everything alone.
But as Gabriel grew older and transitioned into adult healthcare, everything changed.
We went from personalized, attentive care to taking a number at a busy adult clinic. Suddenly, I found myself fighting to have concerns heard, trying to get answers, coordinating between providers, and making sure important details didn't get overlooked.
And I am a nurse.
I understood medical terminology, knew how to ask questions, and had experience working within the healthcare system. Yet there were still times I felt completely overwhelmed, frustrated, and unheard.
I often wondered how families without a healthcare background managed to navigate these same challenges.
Throughout those years, I learned that having medical knowledge isn't always enough. Sometimes you need someone who has the time to listen, knows which questions to ask, follows up when answers don't come, and refuses to let important concerns fall through the cracks.
Gabriel passed away in August 2024 at just 22 years old.
I created Gabriel's Way to honor his life and turn everything we experienced into something meaningful for other families.
Today, my mission is simple: to help people feel heard, informed, and supported while navigating a healthcare system that can be incredibly difficult to manage alone.
Because no family should have to fight so hard just to be heard.
